corten properties at temperature Introduction

Corten Temperature Properties - Metal and Metallurgy ...

Jun 28, 2002 · Corten Temperature Properties. Normal Temperature range is 200-400 degrees F with monthly excursions to 600-900 degrees F for short periods of time. Relatively light guage A242 used as a support for a heat exchange media. Looks like TVP's lead worked for you.

You may be able to find this information at the USS website for CorTen, or at least find some contact information for someone there who can better answer your question ussteel/corp/Plate/products/usscortn.htmCorten is in essence a variation of high strength-low alloy construction grade steels with additional Cu to enhance corrosion resistance and would not normally be considered for elevated temperature applications for the following reason The mechanical properties of the high-strength low-alloy steels depend on their hot rolled condition. These steels are not further heat treated except for annealing, normalizing or stress relieving, applied as required to facilitate cold forming. The heat treated grades depend on either precipitation hardening or quenching and tempering for development of mechanical properties. Ref 8th Ed Metals Handbook Vol. 1 p87. In other words, if you heat these steels the properties are going to change. However, there could be data on what these properties are at elevated temperatures but it does not seem likely given the above excerpt and having seen how these alloys are typically applied where min yield of about 50,000 psi is required. If you are only looking at a few hundred degrees F, probably no problem. Otherwise you should probably be looking for a heat resisting alloy. hope this helps, Leonard Jesus is the WAY1Normal Temperature range is 200-400 degrees F with monthly excursions to 600-900 degrees F for short periods of time. Obviously I am surprized based on what I thought I knew. Leonard Jesus is the WAYYes. I did, Thanks. Basically the answer was that Corten should not be used above 800F. The strength falls off drastically at that point.Cor-Ten A properties at 850 F ?Jul 26, 2005Material propertiesJul 31, 2002See more results

COR-TEN FOR HIGH TEMP EXHAUST - General Corrosion …

Jan 08, 2011 · re cor-ten for high temp exhaust M. Raza I do not believe that corten offers any significant advantages vs. plain carbon steel at 1000F with respect to high-temperature oxidation resistance. If you have no corrosive species in the exhaust there are tables and graphs that detail oxidation rates of carbon steel at 1000F.

What is Corten Weathering Steel?

If you want COR-TEN® this will be the best available option. Weathering steels, such as ASTM A588, A242, A606 and COR-TEN® exhibit superior corrosion resistance over regular carbon steel as a result of the development of a protective oxide film on the metals surface which slows down further corrosion.
