Is A36 steel food safe and can it be seasoned like cast iron?

As opposed to spending $110 for a big baking steel, I can buy a same size A36 steel plate for less than half that price from a local plant. The website for the baking steel says that a plate of A36 steel was the prototype for the product, and my research says that it should be food safe.
